Born in B&W info Link Born In Black & White - Cotton & Glen

The classic recordings made by Blue Note and Chess in the 50’s & 60’s inspire this album. Recorded over three days ‘live’ in the studio, it pays tribute to the spirit of those pioneers. Roger Cotton has been playing Blues and Soul all his life and has the scars to prove it! He has toured the world with “Peter Green’s Splinter Group” and worked with James Carr, Larry Garner and Eric Bibb.

Alan Glen is acknowledged as one of the UK’s finest harmonica players. He, like Roger, has toured the world as a member of “The Yardbirds”. He has also recorded with “Nine Below Zero”, “Little Axe”, and his own band “The Barcodes”.This project is a chance for them to display their considerable talents as performers of their own original material.

Born In Black & White is available from Note-Music
Yardbirds Birdland Inf Link 'Birdland' - The Yardbirds

The Yardbirds' first new album since 1968! The Yardbirds are back from a 35-year holiday, this time to write a new page in rock history. Guitarist Chris Dreya and drummer Jim McCarty, both founding members, bring in Jeff Beck and a whole slew of great guitarists to man the guns. Slash, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Steve Lukather and Brain May electrify eight original favorites, such as "Train Kept A-Rollin'," "Shapes of Things" and "Mr., You're a Better Man Than I." But wait! That's just half of the album. The other half features seven new songs written by Dreya and McCarty and performed by the new Yardbirds." Frontman John Idan, guitarist Gypie Mayo, and harmonica player Alan Glen round out the band.

Birdland can be bought from The Yardbirds Official Website and all major music stores.

Bob Haddrell, David Newton, Rod Demick, Tim Wells, Shakey Vick, Jim Ydstie, Dave Briggs, Alan Glen, Gordon Smith, Bernie Pallo, Alan Barnes, Sonny Black, George Pearson and Roger Cotton. He also wishes to thank fellow drummer George Gostlow for all his advice and encouragement.

Reviews:

Imagine a series of Mississippi blues field recordings that have somehow found their way into a laid back Augustus Pablo dub session. Hints of southern gospel, aching guitar and some blues raps from the US Library of Congress archives. This is fascinating, deeply convincing stuff. **** (4 stars)

Fred Dellar, Q Magazine, June 2002

Hard Grind finds guitarist Skip McDonald's blues/dub hybrid experiment become fully realised. King Tubby's echo chamber relocated to the Mississippi delta where Howlin' Wolf shoots the breeze over some herbal refreshment. Damn fine stuff indeed.

Simon McEwen, Mojo Magazine, July 2002
